May is Mayor’s Neighborhood Month in Lancaster City!
Mayor’s Neighborhood Month helps celebrate Lancaster City’s diverse neighborhoods and cultures. The City coordinates events in each quadrant, bringing the community together for a fun-filled evening in their neighborhood. There’s also a movie night at the end the month, centrally located in Binns Park!
Each block party will have various activities, fun treats, tables from city departments, and an opportunity to meet Mayor Danene Sorace, and Silo, the Stormers Mascot!
The first neighborhood to be highlighted is the Northeast Neighborhood!
The block party will be held on Wednesday, May 1 at Sixth Ward Park at 5:30 p.m. Explore the park with a pavilion, picnic tables and basketball courts!
The second neighborhood to be celebrated is the Northwest neighborhood!
This block party will kick off on Wednesday, May 8 at 5:30 p.m. at Buchanan Park! Enjoy the large areas of green space, a dog park, a pavilion, a playground, and basketball courts!
The Southwest neighborhood is the third neighborhood to be highlighted!
***Please note, the block party scheduled for Culliton Park on May 15, 2024 has been cancelled due to anticipated negative weather***
Next, the Southeast Neighborhood!
Come on out to Millburn Park on Wednesday, May 22 at 5:30 p.m. and enjoy a recently renovated playground with all your neighbors!
Movie night featuring Encanto
To complete the month of celebrations, a final and free movie night is being held on Thursday, May 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Binns Park! Community members can watch Encanto while enjoying popcorn together.
Encanto is a Disney animated musical film that follows the story of the Madrigal family, who live in a magical house hidden in the Colombian mountains. Each member of the family possesses a unique magical gift, except for Mirabel, the protagonist. When the magic of the Encanto starts to fade, Mirabel embarks on a journey to save her family and discover the true meaning of magic.
Bring your own chairs or blankets and hangout under the stars!
