Celebrate Lancaster
Celebrate Lancaster, the largest of the city-led events highlights the culture of our city through music, food, performance, and community.
Red Rose Run
Celebrating 50 years in 2026, the Red Rose Run is a 5-mile-long race through the streets of Lancaster City.
First Friday & Music Friday
Lancaster City’s monthly celebration of arts and culture, First Friday sees the city blossom with activity. Additionally, Music Fridays feature live concerts, street performances, and more.
Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
Experience the sights, sounds, and flavors of Latin American culture at the City of Lancaster’s Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration. Binns Park and Ewell Plaza come to life with live music and dance, food and drink vendors, and family-friendly activities.
Welcoming Week
The City of Lancaster is proud to be a Certified Welcoming city. We celebrate this designation each year with a celebration of the varying cultures that make up Lancaster City’s population. Previous festivities have included food trucks, live music, and more throughout the city.
Freedom Jazz Fest
Featuring live music, cultural performances, and a variety of vendors, this event fosters community spirit and educates attendees about the historical significance of Juneteenth through engaging activities and presentations.
Additional online-based and promoted or non-city-led cultural events marketed under the Mayor’s Cultural Celebrations include Black History Month, Women’s History Month, and World Refugee Day. In addition, funding is provided to neighborhoods that wish to hold block parties.
Lancaster City for the Holidays
Mayor’s Tree Lighting
A cherished tradition that showcases the lighting of the tree at Penn Square, Santa and his team, and Lancaster’s holiday spirt. Featuring live music and entertainment.
Santa in the City
Santa and his Bureau of Fire escort visit all four quadrants of the city, offering photo ops at different stops.
New Year’s Eve
An event that attracts residents and visitors alike, Lancaster City becomes the center for people to dance into the new year with live music and the Red Rose Drop.
Additional online-based or non-city-led holiday events include Small Business Saturday, Light Up South East, Lancaster Shops Late, and Menorah Lightings.
Ewell Plaza & Binns Park Programming
Ewell Plaza serves as a vibrant gathering space in the heart of Lancaster City, offering diverse programming that fosters community engagement and activates the public realm.
In addition to large scale events, our planned weekly schedule is designed to provide a consistent lineup of activities, attracting residents and visitors throughout the week. Programming could include:
- Food truck rallies, bringing local and regional flavors to Ewell Plaza.
- Wellness programming, like outdoor classes and group fitness.
- Movie nights, dance lessons, and other entertainment.
- Partnerships with other community organizations to produce family-friendly activities.
- Tournaments and competitions (such as cornhole, horseshoes, etc.)
- Beer gardens.
- Live music and dance performances.
