YWCA Lancaster presents Racial Justice Institute Part I. The Racial Justice Institute (RJI), comprised of level one (I) and level two (II), is one of the YWCA Lancaster’s core programs coming out of the social justice department. It is an intensive three-day session and we are excited to offer it to you on September 11 – 13! The workshop gives participants a common understanding of racism and related concepts, including but not limited to: white privilege, internalized oppression, and systemic racism. RJI-I provides many opportunities for increased self-awareness. YWCA Lancaster views RJI-I as foundational for working toward dismantling the institutional and systemic racism that is present in our lives, and in the institutions and organizations of which we are all a part. Participants will leave better equipped with an understanding of the separate experiences, work, and responsibilities of People of Color and White People. They are introduced to a fundamental anti-racist, multi-cultural model which can lead to a tangible plan of action for themselves and/or their team. Workshop participants will learn through a variety of modalities, including journaling, hands on exercises and discussion, workbooks, and more. These tools can be used to study, question, and better understand the history, context, and impact of racism on individuals and society.
