Tour the festive halls and rooms of President James Buchanan’s Wheatland this holiday season and discover historic Christmastime traditions and customs. Yuletide at Wheatland will take you “below stairs” to learn about the those who also lived at Wheatland with Buchanan and his family, the domestic servants, and how they would have celebrated the holidays in mid-19th century America. From advent calendars to mistletoe, enjoy merry and popular Christmas decorations cherished by the German and Irish Wheatland servants at Yuletide at Wheatland: Christmas Below Stairs. Yuletide at Wheatland runs November 25 – December 30, 2019. Tours are Monday – Saturday, on the hour, from 10am to 3pm. Closed Sundays and major holidays. Visitors begin their Yuletide at Wheatland experience by watching the orientation film “Buchanan’s America: A Nation Divided,” followed by a 1 hour history and holiday-theme tour of the presidential mansion. This tour includes both floors. Yuletide at Wheatland ticketholders also receive admission to the self guided museum exhibitions in LancasterHistory’s main building.
