We The People First Fridays: Under Freedom’s Sky – Staged Reading
February 4, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

UNDER FREEDOM’S SKY is a multi-media presentation featuring dramatic readings of authentic stories about Lancaster County’s involvement in anti-slavery movements and the Underground Railroad. A discussion will follow the performance and include an explanation of why so little is known about these important historical events.
The accompanying art exhibit, THE ROAD TO FREEDOM TAKES MANY PATHS will open in the Regitz Gallery with a light reception from 6-8 P.M. It will remain on display through February 26. THE ROAD TO FREEDOM TAKES MANY PATHS, is a combination of photographs, illustrations, and maps, including explanatory text notes that describe Lancaster and Southeastern Pennsylvania’s African American heritage, with significant content about the Underground Railroad. The materials depict the period from the Colonial-era and Revolutionary War through the first half of the 20th century.
Also on display Lyet Lobby is an art exhibit by Bryan “King Prolifik” Hickman, Alkebulan: Ode to Orishas, which opened January 21 and runs through February 26. In this artistic realm of exploration, you will be guided through an amalgamation of historical accounts, mythology, and imagination. Alkebulan, the indigenous name of the land we now know as Africa, will be the center of this aesthetic journey. Simultaneously, the art itself will allude to distinct aspects of Yoruba culture; more directly, it will highlight the legend of the Orishas.
