
We The People First Friday Asian Culture Celebration
August 6, 2021 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

On stage @ 6:30: Chinese Cultural and Arts Institute’s esteemed dancer-choreographer Chen-Yu, Tsuei, will present a troupe of dancers performing to traditional Chinese music. Lancaster dancers Hong Dong and Sophie Xiong wil present two additional dances, and young dancers from the Pennsylvania Migrant Education Program – Aayusha Chapagai and Aashika Adhikari – will perform a traditional dance from their Nepali culture. Cambodian-American Sonii Bora will offer an original spoken word piece addressing Anti-Asian hate.
Art exhibits will feature the traditional calligraphy and watercolor paintings by Mrs. Diana Meng, a nationally recognized Master Folk Artist and Resident at the Chinese Cultural and Arts Institute; and artwork by Hong Dong and several other Lancaster-based Asian visual artists. A collection of traditional Chinese puppetry arts on loan from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Offices in Washington, D.C. and New York, NY and never before displayed these outside of the Taiwan Cultural Center in DC. A large collection of traditional Japanese kimonos are presented throughout the lobby area.
Finally, there will be crafting tables set up providing an opportunity for youngsters (and young-at-heart adults) to make Chinese lanterns to take home.
