This holiday season, the Pennsylvania SPCA’s Lancaster Center is giving back to the under-served pet owner community through its Santa Claws and Paws Holiday Drive. Spearheaded by Jennifer Nields, a Pennsylvania SPCA Humane Law Enforcement Officer, the drive will accept donations of pet food, blankets, beds, toys, gift cards and more to be distributed to families in need throughout the community. The families will be chosen by local police, fire departments and by nomination and will be delivered between Christmas and the New Year. To nominate a deserving family, email email@example.com. Nominations should include descriptions of each animal in the household and their needs. “There are many families in our community who love their animals immensely, but may not have the means to care for them like they want to,” said Nields, who previously ran this donation drive as part of the Lancaster County Animal Coalition. “All these families need is a helping hand, and seeing as though the mission of the Pennsylvania SPCA is not only to find homes for animals, but to keep them there, we thought what better time to help than during the holidays.” Community members interested in donating items to the Santa Claws and Paws drive ca do so by visiting the Pennsylvania SPCA Lancaster Center (848 South Prince Street), or through donation bins in many area locations including:
• Fish Place/That Pet Place (237 Centerville Road)
• VCA Bridgeport Animal Hospital (1251 Ranck Mill Road)
• McCleary’s Pub (130 W. Front Street, Marietta)
“We are thrilled to be in the Lancaster Community, not only to care for the homeless and forgotten animals, but to help animals in the community stay in their loving homes. This drive is near and dear to my heart and I’m proud to say it goes beyond dogs and cats, but to guinea pigs, rabbits and animals of all kinds,” said Nields.
