Opening Reception of Raíces x Jonathan Almanza at New Crop

Raíces is a menagerie of pieces inspired by Mesoamerican cosmology and fantastical animal folklore that depicts ancient legends of creation and the supernatural characteristics of its creatures. Blending impressions from across different Mesoamerican myths and symbols, Raíces pays tribute to ancient civilization’s deities and icons. Raíces features mixed media of acrylic, oil, pastels, on canvas, paper, panels, and wood to present a mixed style of detailed illustrations against abstract backgrounds.
