Kaneko Day 2024 and Grand Opening

Celebrate your local urban forest with friends and family of all ages at the Kaneko Arboretum at Lancaster Cemetery grand opening! There will be events for everyone including a ceremonial tree planting, origami, calligraphy, shinrin yoku, bonsai, Iaido, tours, and food!

The Kaneko Arboretum at Lancaster Cemetery is named after George Kinzo Kaneko, a Franklin & Marshall College and Lancaster Theological Seminary student from Japan who is buried in the cemetery. After his death in 1896, several Gingko trees sent from Japan were planted in his honor at F&M and the Lancaster Cemetery. All of the trees were eventually brought to Lancaster Cemetery and have continued to thrive, one of which has grown to earn the title of State Co-Champion.
