“Hold Fast to Dreams”- Piano and Voice Recital

On Sunday, February 19th at 3pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lancaster native, soprano Emily Riggs and Peruvian pianist, David Ballena will present, “Hold Fast to Dreams,” a recital celebrating the rich tradition of poetry and song in the United States. This program features settings of texts by some of America’s most celebrated poets including Langston Hughes and Edna St. Vincent Millay alongside arrangements of several folksongs and spirituals. From the comical to the contemplative, this program spans over 150 years of repertoire and offers a snapshot of the diverse legacy of American song.
Riggs and Ballena frequently collaborate in recital and have a particular interest in the performance of Latin American Art Song and contemporary American Art Song. Riggs is Associate Professor of Music at Eastern Connecticut State University where she teaches voice and is the director of Eastern Opera Theater. Ballena teaches piano and chamber music at Eastern and is a Collaborative Pianist and Performance Coach at the Aspen Music Festival and School in Aspen, Colorado. This concert is free of charge. A free will offering will be collected for those who would like to contribute.
Parking at Wheatland Middle school (enter at intersection of Fifth St and S West End Ave). Shuttle bus will be available to/from the church.
