The Freedom Writers Foundation was founded by Erin Gruwell, a revolutionary educator whose story working with 150 Southern California high school students was published as a New York Times bestseller and captured as a 2007 Hollywood movie. On October 7th in Lancaster, you will have the opportunity to hear from two original Freedom Writer students and view the just-released PBS documentary “Stories from an Undeclared War.” It will be an inspiring evening of storytelling around the power of prevention, education, and resilience! Schedule: 5:00: Social Hour/Hors d’oeuvres 6:00pm: Welcome & Original Freedom Writers Presentation- Tony Becerra and Sue Ellen Alpizar 7:00pm: Documentary Screening- Stories from an Undeclared War 8:15pm: Q&A with the Speakers 8:45pm: Book Signing The event is hosted by Compass Mark, a local non-profit organization with a mission to prevent addiction through education, skill building, and community mobilization.
