3rd Annual Festival of Voices March 16, 2015March 16, 2015 By Alexandria Chiavetta The 3rd Annual Festival of Voices will take place throughout the weekend of March 20-22. This celebration of the vocal arts in Lancaster gives singers of every age a venue that helps to simultaneously bring awareness to the local music programs. In the past, Festival of Voices has only taken place during one evening. This year, however, Millersville University and Music For Everyone have partnered to present a new and improved musical extravaganza of concerts and workshops. The weekend will kick off with a concert at the Winter Center on Millersville University’s campus featuring the Women’s Choir, Men’s Glee Club, and a capella group Chromatic Expansion. This concert begins at 7:30 pm on Friday night. Saturday will feature two separate performances from students of all ages. First, Fulton Elementary School on Orange St. will host a student choir concert featuring performances by James Buchanan Elementary, Burrowes Elementary, Abraham Lincoln Middle School, Solanco High School, the Michael Popovsky Studio, and the Music For Everyone Community Chorus. The show will start at 2:00 pm, and tickets are free! Later Saturday evening, The Winter Center will feature another concert, this time featuring the University Choir and Chorale from Millersville University. The concert, titled “Choral Gems of Germany, Vienna and Venice,” will take place at 7:30 pm. The final performance to cap off the weekend’s festivities will take place at The Ware Center in Downtown Lancaster. This show will feature the Music For Everyone Community Chorus and a capella legends “The Persuasions”. The show starts at 3:00 pm, and tickets cost $15. In addition to the four shows taking place throughout the area, there will be two free workshops taking place on Saturday, March 21 at Fulton Elementary School. Both “Singing in Motion” and “All Together Now” can be registered for online, and will focus on areas like posture, breathing, conducting, and having fun with music.
