New Eats on Mulberry Street: Flora’s February 27, 2015February 27, 2015 By Alexandria Chiavetta 306 North Mulberry Street will house a brand new restaurant come mid-March. Flora’s Restaurant, replacing the previous El Maizal Art Restaurant, will offer an assortment of Latino dishes with an artistic atmosphere. The restaurant will include seating for 20 people in the space’s front room, complete with window counters and wall tables. There will be an additional community table in the rear, able to seat 12 more people. Flora Gonzalez is the restaurant’s owner, as well as its main cook. She describes Flora’s menu to be filled with “Latino fusion”, featuring dishes from Colombia, Peru, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico. Renovations of the old space are currently taking place, including newly painted walls, floors that have been redone, and brand new furnishings to fit the style of the restaurant. Gonzales owns Flora’s Restaurant with her brother and husband. Her husband’s artwork will be on display in Flora’s once the restaurant opens. Gonzales hopes to hire five employees, and be open on weekdays for lunch and dinner, as well as Saturdays for breakfast. Visit the restaurant’s Facebook page to stay updated on the opening!
