Holiday Cocktails from the Horse Inn

Want to throw a holiday party your guests will talk about until next Thanksgiving? Ditch the eggnog and try one of these top-notch cocktails straight from the menu at the Horse Inn!

According to their bartender Ben, the key to re-creating extraordinary cocktails at home without getting too complicated is to focus on one unique ingredient, like the homemade cranberry syrup or chai syrup in these perfect holiday cocktails.

Nantucket Red

horseinn21.5 ounces Hayman’s Old Tom gin
0.5 ounce Pimm’s No. 1
1.25 ounces cranberry syrup*

Combine in a shaker with ice. Shake well, strain into a glass over ice. Top with a splash of soda and garnish with a twist of orange peel.

*To make cranberry syrup, dissolve equal parts sugar in 100% natural unsweetened cranberry juice and water. Add allspice, cinnamon, cloves and star anise to taste. Simmer for about 30 minutes to reduce.

Chai If I Want To

chai1.5 ounces Bulleit Bourbon
1 ounce chai syrup*
0.5 ounce cream

Combine in a shaker with ice. Shake well, strain into a glass over ice. Garnish with grated nutmeg.

*Chai Syrup

12 cardamom pods
6 allspice corns
12 whole cloves
1.5 inch piece of ginger
2 teaspoons black peppercorns
1 3-inch cinnamon stick
1/2 a vanilla pod
2 tablespoons black tea
8 ounces of sugar

Blend cardamom, allspice, cloves, ginger, peppercorns and cinnamon in a blender. Mix with 8 ounces of sugar and 16 ounces of water. Soak for several hours, then strain and reduce the liquid to a syrup.

Don’t want to reduce your own syrup? Understandable. Stop by the Horse Inn (540 East Fulton Street) and order a Nantucket Red or Chai If I Want To from Ben himself! They’re open Tuesday through Thursday from 4 PM to midnight, and Friday and Saturday from 4 PM to 1 AM.
