#LightTheTree with A Week Away November 28, 2014 By Amber Strazzo While the Mayor’s Tree Lighting & Tuba Christmas acts as the kickoff of the holiday season here in Lancaster, this year it will also serve as the kickoff for A Week Away’s #LightTheTree campaign. AWA’s mission is to finance and coordinate respite weeks for individuals and their loved ones who are dealing with a life threatening illness, so that they might find much needed peace while fighting their disease. For the #LightTheTree campaign, AWA aims to raise $20,000 by December 20. AWA asks that when you light your Christmas tree or menorah this year (or even just a candle that gets you in the holiday spirit), you upload a photo or video to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter — and announce you’re helping AWA light their tree by donating to their $20k by 12/20 fundraiser. Then challenge your friends, family and coworkers, and be sure to use the hashtag #LightTheTree. You can also use the hashtag with photos from the Mayor’s Tree Lighting & Tuba Christmas! This year at the Mayor’s Tree Lighting & Tuba Christmas, we are honored to have the Lynch Family join the Mayor and Santa in lighting the tree. The Lynch Family is a family that is supported by AWA. At the age of 7, Olivia Lynch was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive brain tumor called Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid (ATRt). AWA is sending Olivia and her family on their week away to the Poconos in early 2015. People can donate to the @20k by 12/20 fundraiser online at AWA’s website, and watch their tree light up to track how close they are to their goal.
